About Kannada Prabha

Kannada Prabha is NOT Karnataka’s largest selling newspaper. Not yet. But is the most influential, the most daring and the best designed Kannada State Daily. Its famous campaigns have made big people, big banks and big monoliths like the Railways and the Government Systems change their positions on many policy fronts.

Campaigning for the people comes naturally to Kannada Prabha (KP) as it is part of the The New Indian Express Group, Express Publications (Madurai) Ltd., that still reverberate to the heartbeat of Ramnath Goenka. It was he who started the Kannada daily on November 4, 1967. What was then a single-edition paper has now grown into a statewide network with 28 editions and publication centres in Bangalore, Mangalore, Shimoga, Belgaum, Hubli and Gulbarga.

In Kannada journalism, KP is the recognised trend setter, from the days of its founder Editor N S Seetharam Shastry followed by K S Ramakrishna Murthy. Illustrious editors like Khadri Shamanna and Y.N. Krishnamurthy (YNK) gave the reputation what the Kannada Prabha enjoys today. Later, K Satyanarayana and Vekatanarayana succeeded the golden heritage of this newspaper. As the 21st century got going, KP's owners broke new ground by handing the reins to the youngest team in Kannada journalism led by Editor H.R. Ranganath and Executive Editor Ravi Hegde. A youthful, modernised KP now emerged with a new format, a new approach to forward looking news, a new concept of capsule news strategically placed and a new emphasis on social responsibility.

Kannada Prabha won the Best Designed Newspaper award by Karnataka Media Academy continuously for three year achieving a Hatrick!

Karnataka 50 – a Golden Jubilee edition brought out by Kannada Prabha in 2007 comprising of 138 pages broadsheet paper, an all-time record in Kannada Journalism.

Kannada Prabha Man Of The Year award is today part of Karnataka's history. Every year on December 31, it discovers and brings to public recognition a men or women who serve the people of their areas in exemplary ways at the grassroots level. The process of selection is very elaborate and very transparent. The award carries a 1 lakh Rupees cash and citation.
